Q. What is the best variety of oats to plant this early in the season? (Answered Mar 2007)
A. The main factor to consider if planting oats this early in the year is that it is best to plant a variety that is tolerable to warmer soil conditions. Pacific Seeds' latest variety 'drover' thrives as an early Winter crop with a higher soil temperature tolerance and better early yield than any other variety. We currently have 20kg bags of drover in stock for $28.60. Please note all quoted prices are correct at time of answering and are subject to change. Please contact the Produce Department if you require up to date costing.
Q. What is the best product available to condition my horse's coat? (Answered Feb 2007)
A. There are two main products used to help condition a horse’s coat, Black Sunflowers (oil sunflowers) and vegetable oil. Most horsefeeds contain either of these products, or a mix of both. Cool Command pellets have a good mix of both black sunflowers and vegetable oil, and are great for this purpose. We have had a great deal of positive feedback from customers on the shine produced by Cool Command. A 20kg bag of Cool Command currently retails for $22.71 including GST. Q. What is the best feed available for an older horse? (Answered Jan 2007)
A. Due to common dental problems that come with age, a specialised feed is definitely recommended for older horses. Mitavite Gumnuts is a specially formulated steam extruded feed with increased palatability, enabling your horse - whether it be older or suffering from dental problems - to digest the maximum nutrition possible, increasing the efficiency of your feed. Please speak to the Produce Staff for more info on our range of Mitavite products.
Q. What is the best way to control broad leaf weeds this summer? (Answered Dec 2006)
A. Although it is common practice to use glyphosate (Round Up) to kill broad leaf weeds, there are herbicides available to make the task much easier. By using a selective herbicide such as Kamba M you can avoid the hassle of having to spot spray, as the poison only has an effect on broad leaf weeks. 1 litre of Kamba M currently retails at $20.85 and with a recommended rate of around 30ml/5 litres it is a very cost effective way to minimise weeds in your lawn.
